Marriage Certificates

Please note:

  • Absolutely no information can be given over the telephone regarding Vital Records.
Marriage Records are available from 1831
Under Illinois State Law (410 ILCS 535-Vital Records Act) only specific individuals have legal access to birth, death, or marriage certificates. The McLean County Clerk's Office will issue certificates to authorized individuals only. To do otherwise is a violation of Illinois Law. Vital Records are not considered public information, nor are they subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

To obtain a certified copy of a Marriage Application:

  • Only the Bride or Groom may obtain a certified copy of a Marriage Application.

Requests made in the office require a valid Driver’s license, State issued ID, or a Passport
(Authorized English translation must accompany identification that is not U.S. issued).
Requests made by mail require a photo copy of a signature ID.

To obtain a certified copy of a Marriage License:

  • Anyone is allowed to request a certified copy of a Marriage License.

Requests made in the office require a valid Driver’s license, State issued ID, or a Passport
(Authorized English translation must accompany identification that is not U.S. issued).

Requests made by mail require a photo copy of both sides of a signature ID.

Vital Records Application (Online Payment)
Step 1: Read the following steps then follow this link (http://www.illinoisepay.com/) E-Pay Logo
Step 2: Click on the type of vital record you are requesting from the list.
Step 3: Complete the required information on the screens that follow. You will receive a confirmation number once the transaction is successful.
Step 4: Print the confirmation page.
Step 5:

Place a copy of both sides of your photo identification (i.e. Driver's License or State-issued ID card) which displays your signature on the confirmation page or any piece of paper with the confirmation number and make a photocopy, then sign, date, and fax to the McLean County Clerk at (309) 888-5932 or scan and email the form to coclerkepay@mcleancountyil.gov. Please note, your ID must be in good condition, any chips or cracks will cause the ID to be invalid

Note
  • There is a convenience fee of $ 1.75 for each transaction. This fee is not charged by the McLean County Clerk.
  • If your follow-up confirmation is received after 2:30 P.M., your request will be processed and mailed the following business day.
