AVERT addresses problems ranging from verbal to physical abuse and encourages self-awareness to make positive changes. The counseling focuses on: education about domestic violence; communication skills; self-esteem; anger identification and management; values clarification; assertiveness skill building; and building empathy skills. This program is for adult men and women accused of abusive behavior.
The goal of this program is to break the cycle of abuse. Treatment focuses on developing the skills necessary to understand oneself and improve the quality of one’s relationships. Our premise is a three-tier model of Understanding (acquiring the knowledge); Acceptance/Recognition (of the problems and desire to change); and Application (ability to apply the knowledge and make the changes).
