McLean County Health Department H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

McLean County Health Department Announces Additional H1N1 Vaccination Clinics
In addition to the Healthcare Provider Clinic scheduled for Saturday, November 7, the McLean County Health Department announces two more public vaccination clinics on November 10 and 12 for McLean County residents within the identified priority groups to receive the H1N1 vaccination. Both the injectable vaccine and the intranasal vaccine will be available at all clinics.

November 7, 2009 – Calvary United Methodist Church, Normal
The health department will hold an H1N1 vaccination clinic for healthcare providers only on Saturday, November 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Healthcare providers will be required to show proof of employment at the entrance of the clinic in the form of an employer-issued photo badge or a statement of employment on employer letterhead. Please check with your employer prior to attending the clinic to check on the status of the employer’s plan to vaccinate employees with the H1N1 vaccine. If your employer has received H1N1 vaccine and plans on vaccinating its employees, we ask that you do not attend this clinic.

Tuesday, November 10—U.S. Cellular Coliseum, Bloomington 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, November 10, vaccinations will be available to McLean County residents ages 18 and older who meet the priority group criteria at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 101 South Madison Street in Bloomington from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Attendees should enter the Coliseum at the Front Street entrance on the north side of the building. No persons under the age of 18 will be vaccinated at this clinic. If an individual is a parent or legal guardian of children and eligible for vaccination, they may come to Thursday’s clinic with their children and do not need to attend two separate clinics.

Thursday, November 12—U.S. Cellular Coliseum, Bloomington 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, November 12, vaccinations will be available to McLean County residents ages 6 months to 17 years at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 101 South Madison Street in Bloomington from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Attendees should enter the Coliseum at the Front Street entrance on the north side of the building. All individuals 17 years old and younger must be accompanied by their legal guardian or parent. If the legal guardian or parent accompanying the child is eligible for vaccination based on the priority groups, they will be able to be vaccinated. No vaccinations will be given to those outside of the established priority groups.

The five priority groups as identified by the Centers for Disease Control are:

ISU & WIU
Due to Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University ordering H1N1 vaccine with plans on vaccinating their own communities, the McLean County Health Department clinics will not vaccinate those who attend class or work at these universities even if the individual is a McLean County resident. Please check with Illinois State University or Illinois Wesleyan University for vaccination availability information.

McLean County Health Department recommends following the Centers for Disease Control guidelines to help prevent influenza:
  • Get vaccinated for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza when it becomes available.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough. Use a tissue or upper arm, not your hand.
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water. Use alcohol based hand sanitizers if soap and water are unavailable.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth because germs spread in this manner.
  • Routinely clean frequently touched common surfaces such as your phone, computer keyboard and door knobs.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • If you are sick, stay at home until fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medication.

Remember you can be proactive against the flu! Just follow the 3 C’s:
Clean: Wash your hands
Cover: Cover your cough or sneeze
Contain: Keep sickness at home
