McLean County Parks and Recreation employs over 40 seasonal and part-time staff throughout the year. Applications are available at COMLARA County Park Visitors Center, 13001 Recreation Area Drive. In rural Hudson. A listing of available summer positions with job descriptions is also available at these sites. Seasonal employee positions include program managers, beach managers, lifeguards, cashiers, maintenance laborers and recreation attendants.

Student Summer Jobs!
Seasonal position orientations generally take place on weekends to accommodate students. Flexibility in dates of seasonal employment is available. Talk to us about scheduling around summer classes at nearby Heartland Community College, Illinois State University, and Illinois Wesleyan University.

Internships!
The McLean County Department of Parks and Recreation works closely and regularly with a number of Universities and Colleges within and outside of Illinois on professional practice programs. Stipend and/or housing may be available dependent upon qualifications, internship length, dates, and internship emphasis. The Department has previously worked with students preparing for careers in the diverse fields of Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Planning, Natural Sciences, Management, Business Administration, and Marketing.

Year 2008 Parks Team Opportunities

Visitor Center Attendant (2-3 positions available):
Responsible for greeting the public, providing information, answering phones, collecting fees, entering reservations, selling merchandise and light cleaning duties. Salary Range: $7.75-$ 9.75/hr. Dates FT May 15 – Sept. 15 & PT Sept. 15 – Oct. 30

Aquatics:
Beach Manager: Responsible for the total operation of the beach facility. Salary range: $9.30 - $11.20 per hour. Dates: FT or PT May 15 - Sept. 15

Assistant Beach Manager :
Work with the manager for the total operation of a swimming beach facility. Serve as lifeguard during non-supervisory periods. Salary range: $8.90 - $10.40 per hour. Dates: FT or PT May 15 - Sept. 15

Lifeguards:
Provide a safe swimming environment for the public by life guarding at assigned location, general cleaning & beach maintenance and other duties as assigned. Salary range: $8.70 - $10.30 per hour. Dates: FT or PT May 15 - Sept. 15

Cashiers for Beach (1-2 positions available):
Greet the public, admit patrons to the Beach, selling merchandise. Salary range: $7.75 - $9.75 per hour. Dates: FT or PT May 25 - Sept. 15

Boat Attendants (1 position available):
Responsible for total operation of the Evergreen Lake Boat Rental facility, including boat rental, patron assistance, general cleaning, and cashier responsibilities. Salary range: $7.75 - $9.75 per hour. Dates: FT or PT April 14 – Sept. 30

Maintenance: Laborer - Parks:
Responsible for routine park maintenance such as trimming grass, refuse collection, playground equipment installation, painting, etc Salary Range: $8.70 - $10.30 per hour. Dates: FT or PT April 15 - September 30
