Early Intervention Probation
About the Program
The Early Intervention Probation (EIP) program began in 1998 as a partnership with the Illinois Attorney General's Office. The program is modeled after Orange County California's 8% program. Research found that 8% of the juvenile population in Orange County was responsible for 50% of juvenile crime. Early identification of the 8% combined with wrap around services can be effective in reducing recidivism.
The youth in the program are young (generally 14 years of age or under at the time of arrest) and have exhibited problems in school, family, substance abuse, and pre-delinquent activities. EIP officers provide comprehensive services to not only the youth, but the entire family unit.
