Ice Fishing At Evergreen Lake - AT YOUR OWN RISK!
The McLean County Department of Parks & Recreation DOES NOT determine whether ice on Evergreen Lake is safe for Ice Fishing.  ICE FISHING IS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT TO GO ICE FISHING
When in doubt, DON'T GO OUT!
                                   BEWARE OF THIN ICE

    - Drill your own test hole near shore. Your test hole should show at least a     four to five-inch thickness of clear ice like you get from your freezer.

    - Wear a life jacket for extra warmth and safety.

    - Be aware of various ice strengths and qualities. One area of a lake may be a foot thick while another spot of ice may only be an inch thick.

    - Ice strength can also change. Thick ice is rotten after rain. Old honey-combed ice, slush ice or ice with current under it is also dangerous. New ice is almost always stronger that old ice. Wind, the lake aerator, waterfowl and beavers can also keep areas of ice thin.

Fencing Donations Needed For Tree Seedling Project!
We were the ones who were looking for 1/2 gallon milk jugs for a tree seedling project at COMLARA County Park. Thank you to all who gave!!! I'm still taking them by the way. To date nearly 1400 seeds have been planted!
Now we are looking to phase 4 of our large tree planting project. If any of you would like to donate/get rid of any fencing, please let me know. It can be anything from chicken wire to chain link, and condition doesn't matter. We will use this after transplanting the tree seedlings to keep the critters from munching on them. I can pick up or you can drop off at my house in Lexington or at the COMLARA County Park Visitor Center. Can't thank you all enough!

NEW LARGEMOUTH & SMALLMOUTH BASS REGULATION - STARTING APRIL1, 2016
Starting April 1, 2016 Evergreen Lake will have a NEW bass regulation!  This new regulation will pertain to Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.  The minimum length will remain the same at 15", but the daily creel limit will be changed from six (6) to three (3).

Thank you.

The 2,250 acres of regional parks currently provided by the McLean County Department of Parks and Recreation include COMLARA County Park/Evergreen Lake and S.H. West County Park.

COMLARA County Park
COMLARA County Park includes the following locations:

  • Deer Island Area
  • Lake View Area
  • Main Recreation Area
  • Mallards Bay Conservation Area
  • Six Mile Creek Area
  • Southeast Conservation Area
  • Southwest Conservation Area
  • White Oak Area

Planning for the Future
Future McLean County regional recreation facilities being constructed include the Historic Route 66 Regional Trail and Greenway. The 32-mile Historic Route 66 Trail will link many rural communities and regional natural resources such as the ParkLands Foundation Lexington Preserve along the Mackinaw River and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Funks Grove Nature Preserve to the metropolitan area of Bloomington / Normal, Illinois. This trail provides interpretive opportunities along the Historic Route 66 corridor for central Illinois visitors. Sections of the trail linking Bloomington, Shirley and Funk's Grove to the south and Towanda to the north are complete. Additionally, Lexington and Chenoa have sections completed within those Communities, providing bicycle and pedestrian opportunities.

Our Mission
It is the mission of the McLean County Department of Parks and Recreation to ensure adequate provision for and high quality of regional parks and related outdoor recreational activities for all citizens of McLean County in the most cost-efficient manner possible.
