Animal Registration

The Animal Control Registrar has moved to the McLean County Animal Control Center and is no longer located at the McLean County Health Department. All animal registration inquiries should be directed to the McLean County Animal Control Center

Registration fees may be paid in person at the McLean County Animal Control Center, mailed or paid on line. 

Replacement rabies registration tags can be
acquired for a $2 dollar fee at the
McLean County Animal Control Center.
 during routine business hours.

The McLean County Registration fees supports the Animal Control Program by providing a comprehensive program to citizens of McLean County through the following programs:
  • rabies prevention, 
  • aggressive dog control,
  • community education,
  • finding homes for adoptable pets,
  • wildlife prevention education and 
  • protecting the health and safety of the citizens of McLean County.

The main purpose of the McLean County Animal Control Program is to protect people and pets from rabies, a serious disease that is most often fatal for both animals and humans. Rabies protection is provided through the enforcement of Illinois laws, local municipal ordinances and the McLean County Ordinance. These  ordinances requires all dogs and cats to be registered with the McLean County Animal Control Program after a veterinarian vaccinates them for rabies. The differential fee collected for unaltered cats and dogs is used to offer assistance with spay and neuter procedures for animals adopted from the McLean County Animal Control Center. In addition income eligible residents may utilize the McLean County Pet Population Control Fund to help with altering procedures through the McLean County Pet Population Control Fund.

Requirements
Animal rabies vaccination is not valid until the animal is registered with McLean County Animal Control Program.

New residents to McLean County must bring in or mail a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate to the McLean County Animal Control Center within 30 days of moving into McLean County.

You can pay the rabies registration fee in person at the McLean County Animal Control Center, by mail or online once you have a rabies registration tag issued by the registrar or veterinarian. 

Dogs and cats that are unaltered by state law must pay a higher differential rabies registration fee due to their reproductive status. View a
list of area veterinarians to inquire about altering your pet.

In addition to dogs and cats, primates must also annually register with the McLean County Animal Control Program. For more information on primate registration, click here.    

Dogs and cats under 7 months of age may pay the $10 dollar rabies registration fee, this gives the owner an opportunity to schedule an appointment with a veterinarian for altering procedures.
   
Payment of Registration Fees
Partial payments not accepted. Late fee applies to registration paid after 30 days of rabies vaccination. The first notice of registration requirements are given at the time of inoculation. The information is located on the remittance envelope provided by the veterinarians office.
