- Civil responsibilities of the State’s Attorney Office are
performed by the State’s Attorney
and 2 Assistant State’s Attorneys with over 40 years of combined
service:
- The State’s Attorneys Office is the legal advisor to
County government.
- County government includes the County Board, elected officials,
appointed officials, and other Boards and Agencies of the County.
- As legal advisor, the State’s Attorneys Office has the
duty to commence and defend actions where the County is a party
to a lawsuit, render legal opinions, negotiate contracts, draft
legislation, and perform other legal functions as needed.
- County government clients:
- County Board consists of 20 elected members, 6 standing committees,
and 3 sub-committees.
- 8 Elected Officials: Sheriff, Clerk, Auditor, Circuit Clerk,
Coroner, Recorder, Treasurer, and Regional Superintendent of Schools.
- 13 Appointed Officials: Building & Zoning Department, Children’s
Advocacy Center, County Administration, County Parks Department,
Court Services, Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, Facilities
Management, Highway Department, Information Technology, Juvenile
Detention Center, Nursing Home, Risk Management and Supervisor
of Assessments.
- Other County Agencies represented: include the Board of Health,
Emergency Telephone System Board, Public Aid Appeals Committee,
Regional Board of School Trustees, Regional Planning Commission,
Regional Pollution Control Committee, Sheriff’s Office Merit
Commission, TB Care and Treatment Board, Veteran’s Assistance
Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.
