Board of Review
About the Membership
The Board is comprised of three members, appointed by the County Board chairman. The members represent the two highest polling political parties in the last general election - two members from the majority, and one from the next highest polling party.
Board of Review members must pass a state examination and demonstrate knowledge of real estate and tax law. The board's highest goal is a fair and equitable assessment.
The current Board of Review consists of the following members:
- Gene Yeast, Chairman (R)
- Joseph Stephens, Member (D)
- Gina Medernach, Member (R)
Taxpayers can appeal their assessment to the board during the 30 days following the notice of assessment. The board can change any value in the County. A hearing may be held, in an informal setting, in the Supervisor of Assessments conference room. The board also has equalization authority. Please refer to the rules of the Board of Review (PDF) and Guidelines for Assessment Complaints (PDF) for more details.
Taxpayers who object to their assessment must complete a complaint form.
DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE McLEAN COUNTY BOARD OF REVIEW WILL NOT HOLD IN-PERSON HEARINGS IN 2020. All hearings with assessment reduction requests of less than $100,000 will be held by telephone. Telephone hearings will be scheduled. Appellants will be required to call the Board of Review at the scheduled time. Hearings with assessment reductions requests greater than $100,000 may be held by telephone ore by video conference. All parties will be required to telephone or log-in at the scheduled hearing time. Any appellant who does not call in for their scheduled hearing may result in the Board dismissing the assessment complaint.
