BLOOMINGTON — The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that lane closures on Center Street (U.S. 51 Business south) will begin Monday, July 22.
The closures are necessary for repairs to the bridge that carries Center Street over the Norfolk Southern railroad in downtown Bloomington. The project involves replacing bridge piers and joints and applying a pavement treatment to increase safety. In addition to the lane closures, width of the open lane will be reduced to 9 feet, 6 inches during the work, which is expected to be complete by the end of November.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
