The McLean County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be able to participate with Olympia School District #16 by providing a school resource officer (SRO).
In September of 2022, Deputy Ben Zehr began his full-time duties as the SRO for the school district. The School Resource Officer Program is a cooperative effort to the reduction and prevention of school-related violence and crime committed by juveniles and young adults. In addition, we hope the program will build a more positive relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the youth of our community.
Some of the responsibilities of the SRO Program include the following topics:
Conduct criminal investigations that occur on campus and take enforcement action when appropriate
Coordinating investigative procedures between the Sheriff’s Office and school administrators
General campus security at OHS, OMS, and Olympia North schools
Providing information about law enforcement topics to both students and staff
