School Resource Officer Program

Working with the Olympia School District #16

The McLean County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be able to participate with Olympia School District #16 by providing a school resource officer (SRO).

In September of 2022, Deputy Ben Zehr began his full-time duties as the SRO for the school district. The School Resource Officer Program is a cooperative effort to the reduction and prevention of school-related violence and crime committed by juveniles and young adults. In addition, we hope the program will build a more positive relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the youth of our community.

SRO Responsibilities

Some of the responsibilities of the SRO Program include the following topics:

  • Conduct criminal investigations that occur on campus and take enforcement action when appropriate
  • Coordinating investigative procedures between the Sheriff’s Office and school administrators
  • General campus security at OHS, OMS, and Olympia North schools
  • Providing information about law enforcement topics to both students and staff
  • Traffic enforcement
