IDOT Work on Old US 51

Road Closure Sign

For Immediate Release:  July 8, 2019

Work on Old 51 in McLean County set July 9

HEYWORTH - The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that construction along Old U.S. 51 will begin Tuesday, July 9.

The work involves pavement patching and replacement of guardrails and culverts in an area from 2 miles south of Heyworth to 5 miles north of Heyworth. Intermittent weeklong closures of Old U.S. 51 where structures are being replaced will be required, and motorists must find an alternate route. The project is expected to be complete by mid-October.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alet1 for workers and equipment.
