Nursing Services
Therapy Department
Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapist will evaluate the resident, and develop a specific plan of care to achieve their goals. The resident's plan of care for therapy will be signed off by their physician.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is a form of therapy to help you get back to performing activities required in daily life.

Our therapy team assists residents in strengthening, learning to manage their own dressing and bathing skills, learning to manage basic household skills for cooking and cleaning, and using modalities for pain and muscle re-education. This is to allow residents to be safe and independent when they return home if able. Other areas occupational therapy can address are wheelchairs needs, lymphedema management, and shoulder impairments.

Physical Therapy
The physical therapy team will work with each resident to help him/her to improve their strength, balance, pain issues, range of motion issues, transferring from different surfaces, and walking. We utilize modalities for pain and muscle re-education. All treatments are geared towards increasing patient independence to return to their homes.

Speech Therapy
Our speech language pathologists design treatment plans to address communication problems, memory loss and swallowing dysfunction. These treatment plans can focus on comprehension skills for written and verbal communication as well as cognitive status, which may include memory, orientation and reasoning skills. For resident's with swallowing disorders, speech language pathologists also work to address oral muscle strength and function for speaking and for safe eating and drinking.

McLean County Nursing Home utilizes the VitalStim if you have difficulty swallowing. The use of VitalStim is an adjunctive technique used by a speech and language pathologist that has been certified to perform this service.

What is VitalStim?
