The County Clerk's office is made up of three divisions:
Vital Records, Elections, and Recording, responsible for handling events occurring in McLean County.

Vital Records Division:
Requests for vital records (birth, death, marriage and civil union certificates), including genealogical requests

Marriage and civil union license applications and recording of solemnized marriage and civil union certificates

Redemptions of delinquent real property and mobile home taxes

Assumed Names for sole proprietorships with addresses in McLean County

Recording of notary public commissions and issuing of certificates of authority

Applications for Liquor Licenses, Fireworks and Massage Parlor Permits (except City of Bloomington)

Recording and filing County Board minutes and other documents

Elections Division:
Administration of McLean County Elections (except City of Bloomington)**

Voter registration and maintenance of voter records for people residing in McLean County (except for City of Bloomington)**

Statements of Economic Interests for units of local government in McLean County

Recording Division:
Recording of real estate documents (i.e. deeds, mortgages, plats, etc.), legal documents (i.e. wills, POA's, etc.), military discharge records, and other documents

**Reminder: McLean County has two Election Authorities. Our office handles all but City of Bloomington. Click HERE for the Bloomington Election Commission's Website.**

The duties of the Recorder's Office are now handled by the County Clerk

A referendum to place the duties of the Recorder’s Office into the County Clerk’s Office was passed by the voters of McLean County on November 6, 2012 and took effect December 31, 2013.  Both offices continue to provide professional, dedicated customer service to the public and will remain at their same locations with telephone numbers, email addresses and website links remaining the same.

Important Alert to our Customers:

Due to 2018 budget cuts in McLean County and the State of Illinois, all McLean County government office budgets were cut, resulting in reduced staffing.

Please be prepared for delays in processing your requests.  Bring to our attention any urgent needs so we can prioritize those requests.  We may be fortunate not to experience any lengthy delays, but we did want to alert you to the possibility.
