rabies registrationThe McLean County Registration supports the Animal Control Program by providing:
  • rabies prevention
  • aggressive dog control
  • community education
  • finding homes for adoptable pets
  • protecting the health and safety of the citizens of McLean County

The main purpose of the Animal Control program is to protect people and pets from rabies, a serious disease that is most often fatal for both animals and humans. Rabies protection is provided through the enforcement of Illinois law and the McLean County Dog and Cat Registration Ordinance. This ordinance requires all dogs and cats to be registered with McLean County Animal Control Program after a veterinarian vaccinates them for rabies. View a list of frequently asked questions and answers about the ordinance.
The differential fee collected for unaltered cats and dogs is used to spay and neuter animals adopted from the Animal Control Center and low-income residents through the Pet Population Control Fund.

Animal vaccination is not valid until the animal is registered with McLean County Animal Control. If you are new to McLean County, you must bring in or mail a copy of your cats' or dogs' rabies vaccination certificate to the the McLean County Animal Control Center within 30 days of moving. You can pay the registration fee at the animal control center in person, by mail or you may pay on line through GovPay services. Unaltered dogs and cats pay a higher registration fee due to their reproductive status. View a list of area veterinarians

In addition to dogs and cats, primates must also be registered with Animal Control. For more information on primate registration, click here.
